Imagineer has announced that it plans to publish Might and Magic: Day of the Destroyer for the PlayStation 2 in Japan. Additionally, the company plans to release Rally Circuits Africa and the tentatively titled Typhoon for Sony's next-generation console. The PS2 incarnation of Might and Magic: Day of the Destroyer is virtually identical to the already-available PC version in terms of general gameplay, character and weapons classes, and story. The game opens in the land of Jadame, in the town of Ravenshore. The evil Escaton is raising a giant crystal monolith that is lodged in the ground in the middle of Ravenshore. When fully extracted, it will open the four elemental portals of wind, water, earth, and fire, eventually causing the world to collapse. This is where the game begins. Players create one character and must meet and recruit additional party members through their travels.
As the name would suggest, the courses in Rally Circuits Africa are set in the African continent and take players racing across the savanna, through the deserts, and by the pyramids. According to Imagineer, ambient environments such as thick jungles and long coastlines are re-created realistically using the power of the PS2. There are currently five manufacturer models available in the game, including Subaru, Mitsubishi, Renault, Peugeot, and Ford. It currently has a broad 2001 release date.
The third game, currently under the working title of Typhoon, is a strategy flight simulator that includes 30 different aircraft models. Imagineer feels that the game will appeal to both seasoned flight simulator fans and novice gamers. For the beginner, the developers have implemented an introduction mode and a computer-assisted easy operation mode of play. Typhoon will be released sometime in 2001.
GameSpot will have further information on all of these upcoming PlayStation 2 games as it becomes available.
