Insert Coin, a documentary about Midway Games' rise in the '90s with an impressive lineup of titles that includes NBA Jam and Mortal Kombat, has finally gotten a release date. The film will be out November 25 via Alamo Drafthouse On Demand, the popular independent cinema chain's streaming service. (The film is also expected to screen in select cinemas nationwide.) The documentary has also released an official trailer, which you can watch below.

　　Insert Coin promises to be an authoritative telling of the story, which is an easy-to-understand claim: Its director, Joshua Tsui, worked on the infamous Mortal Kombat series--his likeness was used for Liu Kang, one of the OG characters back when MK launched in 1992.

　　In the documentary, Tsui interviews past Midway team members including Eugene Jarvis (Robotron: 2084), Mark Turmell (SmashTV), John Tobias (co-creator of the Mortal Kombat series), George Petro (NARC) and many others. Also featured is an interview with Ready Player One author Ernest Cline, whose sequel Ready Player Two, is due out on November 24.

　　"Insert Coin is the culmination of my work in and passion for the gaming industry blended with my love for visual storytelling," said Tsui. "It truly is my love letter to the early days of Midway and how it influenced the transition from classic coin-operated games to ushering in a new generation of console gaming. I hope fans of video games, and especially of Midway, will love watching Insert Coin as much as we enjoyed making it!"
