Midway confirmed during its third quarter earnings call that it currently has more than 40 games in development for multiple next-generation consoles. Although specific games were not revealed, the games will include league-licensed and extreme sports games, as well as titles in genres such as driving, fighting, role-playing, and adventure. The company is currently transitioning its resources from development for the PlayStation and the Nintendo 64 to next-generation platforms. The largest part of its development resources is currently focused on the Sony PlayStation 2, and the balance is split relatively even between the Nintendo GameCube and the Microsoft Xbox.

　　In the coming quarter, Midway will release CART Fury and an enhanced version of Gauntlet: Dark Legacy for the Sony PlayStation 2. It additionally plans to release a new arcade driving game titled Hot-Rod Rebels.

　　The company reported earnings below analysts' expectations and expects its financial situation to get worse leading up to the 2001 holiday sales season. Midway posted a loss of 8 cents a share on revenue of $76.9 million for the quarter, compared with earnings of 48 cents a share on revenue of $147.6 million for the same period in the previous fiscal year.
