Microsoft has today announced the details of its Xtival '07 event, which will see Xbox Live Gold membership available for free across Europe during the period of November 23 to 26. Xbox 360 owners with broadband connections in European countries where the Live service is offered will be able to play games online, take part in a number of events, enter competitions, and benefit from a number of exclusive downloads, such as theme packs.
Each of the days during Xtival '07 has a theme reflected in what's on offer to gamers. Friday, November 23's theme is "Old Skool vs New Skool," and the day will feature chances to take on others at FIFA 08, Halo 3, Lost Planet, and Gears of War, as well as the latest Arcade titles. There will also be a competition allowing European gamers to take on the developers of Project Gotham Racing 4.
Guitar Hero will be the featured game on November 24, with Microsoft promising a "Game With Fame" session that will contain a "top name talent." No details were available of who this "talent" might be.
Sunday, November 25, will be "Sports Day" to showcase the sporting titles available on the Xbox 360. All weekend, there will be a Halo 3-based art competition, where gamers are invited to upload their best shots from Halo 3 to www.bungie.net with the subject line as "Xtival '07 Halo Art UK." The best shots, as judged by the local Halo art team, will win a print of their successful image.
One final bit of excitement will be in the form of "Mystery Gamers" who can award Microsoft Points during the weekend to gamers they enjoy playing against. There will be no information available as to where and when they are playing--to encourage gamers to keep coming back and playing online.
More information about the event is available on the official Web site.
