Software development toolmaker Metrowerks said on Tuesday at the Game Developers Conference that it will provide custom versions of its CodeWarrior Integrated Development Environment (IDE) programming suites for the latest consoles. SONYRegarding Sony, the company will provide its CodeWarrior game development tools for the PlayStation 2. The company already provides development tools for the company's current PlayStation along with its Net Yarouze development suite for independent developers and hobbyists. The new suite will be released to authorized Sony Computer Entertainment licensees soon. CodeWarrior for the next-generation PlayStation will release for Windows 95/98/NT with support for Assembler, C, and C++ programming languages and two-machine debugging via TCP/IP.
NINTENDOWith Nintendo, Metrowerks announced the availability of CodeWarrior for the Nintendo 64. The custom version of the software was jointly developed with Nintendo of America, the suite combines the ease of use of the Metrowerks IDE along with a project manager, a fast compiler, debugger, browsers, and editors. The software begins shipping this week for US$3000 and will be available through Metrowerks and authorized resellers.
SEGAWith Sega, Metrowerks announced that it has licensed the CodeWarrior for the Dreamcast development suite and will be adopted as part of Sega's Dreamcast development kit. The suite combines the CodeWarrior IDE, Metrowerks' SH4 development tools for C and C++ development. CodeWarrior for the Dreamcast will be released sometime during the second quarter of 1999 for Windows 95/98 with support for Assembler, C, and C++ programming languages.
