2001's Max Payne may be getting another re-release.
The Entertainment Software Rating Board (via Polygon) has rated the third-person shooter for released on PlayStation 4, suggesting a release for that platform is in the cards.
No such re-release has been announced thus far. However, the move comes just days after Sony officially announced plans to bring PlayStation 2 games to PS4. Eight of these games launched on Saturday, while Sony has said fans can expect more in the future. It looks like Max Payne might be one of them.
Of the eight PS2 games launched on PS4 last weekend, three of them were from Rockstar.
Max Payne was originally published by Rockstar Games for PlayStation 2, Xbox, and PC. The game was re-released on Xbox Live for Xbox 360 in 2009, while it came to PlayStation Network in 2012 for PlayStation 3. That game and sequel The Fall of Max Payne were developed by Remedy Entertainment. Max Payne 3 was developed by Rockstar.
If Max Payne does indeed come to PS4 through Sony's new PS2-to-PS4 program, you should expect to have to pay for it even if you already own the original disc. The first batch of games cost $10-15.
The existing PS2 classic version of Max Payne available for PS3 costs $10. That's the same price as the version available on Xbox Live for Xbox 360.
