He might not be a superhero, but superspy Jason Bourne seems to be every bit as indestructible as his spandex-clad peers. In the latest movie in the action franchise, the imaginatively titled Jason Bourne, Matt Damon returns to the role for the first time in nearly a decade. Three new clips from the movie have arrived--check out the first below and the other two at the end of this article.
Director Paul Greengrass is also returning to the action franchise. He and Damon previously collaborated on the second and third films in the series--2004's The Bourne Supremacy and 2007's The Bourne Ultimatum. In 2012, an attempt was made to reboot the series with Jeremy Renner in the lead role, but The Bourne Legacy was both a critical and commercial disappointment.
In a recent interview with the BBC, Damon explained that returning to such a physical role was a challenge. "For the first Bourne movie I was 29 and I thought that was hard work getting into shape," he said. "Now I'm 45 and it's just brutal. We shot this bare-knuckle fighting scene on my 45th birthday and it was a lot of work to get there.
"I was on a very strict diet and spent a lot of time in the gym just making myself miserable. So maybe for the next one Jason Bourne will be fat and happy and old!"
Jason Bourne hits theaters on July 29, 2016. It also stars Vincent Cassell, Julia Stiles, Alicia Vikander, and Tommy Lee Jones.
