Bioware released a gameplay video that goes deep into Mass Effect Andromeda's combat, showcasing a bit of your arsenal during battle.
According to the video, there are five types of weapons: melee, pistols, assault rifles, shotguns, and sniper rifles. The guns are broken down into three different categories with the Milky Way weapons being more traditional ballistic weaponry. Helios weapons are plasma-based that can be charged up and have the abilities to heat-seek targets to counter their slow-moving speed. The Remnant guns are all energy based that can overheat but are deadly accurate and have a high-rate of fire. It's worth noting that there no longer any class restrictions on weapons which mean you can equip any weapon type you deem essential for combat.
Jump jets seem to play a big role in combat offering you some traversal options. Dash into cover or close the distance between you and your foe and introduce them to your Krogan Hammer. We saw that you can use anything as cover, including your nifty all-terrain vehicle, the Mako.
The video also showed off Andromeda's skills system. These skills can be customized to fit each combat scenario. The skills fall into three trees; Combat, Tech, and of course Biotics. Combat focuses on useful battlefield weaponry like grenades, flak cannons, and mines while Tech skills focus on more experimental gear like a cryo beam or flamethrowers. Personally, I prefer the cute little assault turret. Biotics let you harness dark energy to use as a shield or you can simply just pick up enemies and toss them around like ragdolls. Again, like the weapon types there are no class restrictions for your skills.
Mass Effect Andromeda launches on March 21st on PC, Xbox One, and Playstation. EA Access and Origin subscribers will be able to play a week earlier.
