Marvel's Secret Invasion, Armor Wars, And Ironheart All Get Disney+ Shows-November 2024
If you're still gasping for air from the the veritable tidal wave of announcements from Disney today, you might've missed the announcement of three new live-action Marvel series coming to Disney+: Secret Invasion, Ironheart, and Armor Wars.
Secret Invasion
The Secret Invasion comic book arc, which came out in 2008 and 2009, casts the Skrulls from Captain Marvel in a different light than MCU fans might be used to seeing them. Where the Skrulls were refugees in that film, they're invaders here. The Skrulls used their shape-shifting abilities to replace a bunch of Marvel heroes. In the comics, this includes characters like Spider-Woman, Black Bolt, Elektra, and Hank Pym. They infiltrate organizations like SHIELD and the Avengers in an attempt to gain control over Earth.
Marvel boss Kevin Feige confirmed that Samuel L. Jackson will return as Nick Fury, and Ben Mendelsohn as the Skrull named Talos, who played a major role in Captain Marvel and a minor one (technically) in Spider-Man: Far From Home.
Armor Wars
Armor Wars is a much older story, having run in 1987 and 1988. Armor Wars is Tony Stark's worst nightmare come true, Feige says. "It's what happens when his tech falls into the wrong hands." Don Cheadle will reprise his role as James "Rhodey" Rhodes and the War Machine. Expect lots and lots of Iron Man-style armor battling it out.
Ironheart
Also on the super-armor front is Ironheart. Dominique Thorne joins the MCU as Riri Williams, a 15-year-old genius who becomes the successor to Iron Man. In the comics, Williams builds a suit of armor that rivals that of Iron Man. Eventually, Tony Stark notices and endorses her as his replacement. With Stark having died in Avengers: Endgame, that part of the story arc can't happen quite the same way. Williams develops relationships with characters like Pepper Potts, though, giving plenty of room for the show to connect to existing MCU characters. Thorne's turn as Williams will also mark the first black female lead of a an MCU story.
While many announced Marvel shows are coming to Disney+ this year, these shows are in early development or pre-production, and Marvel didn't offer up a premiere date for any of them just yet.
