Now Playing: Brie Larson's Captain Marvel Suit Revealed - GS Universe News Update

"With [Ant-Man and The Wasp] and now with Captain Marvel and many movies to be announced in the near future, I'm anxious for the time where it's not a novelty that there is a female-led superhero movie, but it is a norm," Feige said in the Entertainment Weekly interview. "And it is less a story of, 'Oh, look, a female hero,' and it's more a story of, 'Oh, what's this about? Who's this character? I'm excited to see that.' And I think we can get there."

While Captain Marvel may be the only confirmed female-led Marvel movie right now, it's not the only one in the works. In January 2018, it was revealed that Marvel's standalone Black Widow movie, led by Scarlett Johannson, sought out Jac Schaeffer (TiMER, The Hustle) to write the script. And in July 2018, the movie found its director in Cate Shortland (Somersault, Lore).

Captain Marvel stars Brie Larson (Room) in the title role, playing Carol Danvers and Captain Marvel. It also stars Djimon Hounsou (Never Back Down), Gemma Chan (Crazy Rich Asians), Clark Gregg (Iron Man), and Jude Law (The Aviator), who plays Walter Lawson and Mar-Vell, Danvers' mentor and commander of Starforce. Additionally, Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction), who plays Nick Fury, has been revealed to have two eyes, and Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), who plays Talos, is confirmed to be the leader of the Skrulls.

As of July 2018, Marvel's Captain Marvel has concluded filming. Actress Brie Larson tweeted a photo on July 8 of a clapperboard showing July 6 as the final day of filming.

Captain Marvel is due in theatres on March 8, 2019.
