The Black Panther will walk again in a brand-new animated series hitting Disney+ in 2024. Disney announced the series, Eyes of Wakanda, during the world premiere event for What If...? Season 2.
Revealed by Marvel Studios' Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation Brad Winderbaum, the announcement came from a sizzle reel from Marvel Animation Studios that also showed quick looks at X-Men '97 and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man--the project formerly known as Spider-Man: Freshman Year.
Eyes of Wakanda will focus on warriors from the mystical and super-scientific African nation who have "been tasked to travel the world retrieving dangerous vibranium artifacts." The Black Panther is the name given to the chief of the Panther Tribe and the collective of the Wakandan people, but also its defender.
Chadwick Boseman played the most notable Black Panther, T'Challa, in several projects of the MCU until his untimely death in 2020. Boseman even earned an Emmy nomination for his portrayal in the What If...? episode where T'Challa donned the mantle of Star-Lord.
This will be the second Black Panther animated series after the BET series, developed by Reginald Hudlin, a former Black Panther comic book writer, over a decade ago. No cast or characters have been announced.
