Mark Hamill: George Lucas Demanded Daffy Duck Cartoon Run Before Every Star Wars Screening-October 2024
Oct 18, 2024 6:20 PM

Mark Hamill took to Twitter to confirm a rumor that Star Wars creator George Lucas wanted the Looney Toons classic cartoon "Duck Dodgers in the 24th-and-a-half Century" to be shown before each and every screening of Star Wars in its first theatrical run. The only reason this didn't happen, says Hamill, is because they were unable to get the rights.

"It would have been an icebreaker to let the audience know what was coming was less than dead serious," said Hamill. Check out the full tweet below.

George really did want this classic Daffy Duck cartoon shown before every screening of #SW. It would've been an icebreaker to let the audience know what was coming was less than dead serious. I was disappointed when we couldn't get the rights to it & it didn't happen. #TrueStory https://t.co/5VcGKH1yxf

Those with both HBO Max and Disney+ accounts--or at least the passwords to those services from someone generous or forgetful in your life--can create an at-home facsimile of the experience, as the former has has dozens of Looney Tunes shorts, including 3 Duck Dodgers cartoons (and is expected to be getting the recent Duck Dodgers spin-off in the future) and the latter has the full Star Wars catalog. And, of course, no mention of cartoons and live actors complementing each other would be complete without also nodding to Space Jam: A New Legacy, which recently got its first full-length trailer, and is due out in theaters and HBO Max on July 16.

Similarly, the Disney+ Star Wars show The Bad Batch recently got its first new trailer as well. The Bad Batch tells the story of Clone Force 99 who rebel against the Empire and become mercenaries and soldiers against the Empire. Appropriately, the series will hit Disney+ on May 4. If you're impatient to wait another month for Star Wars goodness, there's the Star Wars Vintage Collection on Disney+ and also the classic Star Wars first-person shooter video game Republic Commando has been re-released on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on Tuesday.
