Majority of CDPR Staff Now Working on The Witcher 4; Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty Sales Exceed 4.3 Million-October 2024
Oct 19, 2024 6:31 AM

Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty sales have surpassed 4.3 million units worldwide, CD Projekt Red has revealed. In addition, the studio revealed an interesting detail about the upcoming new Witcher 4 game.

The impressive sales numbers were revealed as part of the studio's most recent financial earnings report for Q3 of 2023. Interestingly enough, CDPR has also revealed that the expansion has an estimated attach rate of roughly 20%. If we're looking at the most recently communicated sales numbers for Cyberpunk 2077 - 25 million as of October 2023, this would suggest that we're looking at an attach rate of around 17% instead.

The presentation sheets for CDPR's Q3 of FY2023 also revealed some details about the studio's development teams engaged in ongoing projects, including Phantom Liberty, the upcoming Ultimate Edition of Cyberpunk 2077, Cyberpunk 2077 support, project Sirius, GWENT, The Witcher 3 Next-gen, and the Witcher 4 - codenamed Polaris. As can be discerned from the presented graph, the majority of CDPR's staff is now working on the new Witcher game: Polaris, and this is actually the first time that this has been the case since development on the game kicked off. We've included the sheet with an overview of CDPR's upcoming projects below:

CD Projekt Red confirmed that a new Witcher saga was in development back in March of 2022. The new saga will be powered by Unreal Engine 5 and will include multiple games. “We have in mind more than one", CDPR's said in September of last year. "The first saga was three games, so now we are thinking about more than one game, but we are in pre-production of the first game from the second Witcher saga.”

Here's what CDPR had to say about the transition from the studio's own RED Engine to Unreal Engine 5 for its upcoming Witcher games:

"One of the core aspects of our internal RED 2.0 Transformation is a much stronger focus on technology, and our cooperation with Epic Games is based on this principle. From the outset, we did not consider a typical licensing arrangement; both we and Epic see this as a long-term, fulfilling tech partnership. It is vital for CD Projekt Red to have the technical direction of our next game decided from the earliest possible phase as; in the past, we spent a lot of resources and energy to evolve and adapt REDengine with every subsequent game release. This cooperation is so exciting, because it will elevate development predictability and efficiency, while simultaneously granting us access to cutting-edge game development tools. I can’t wait for the great games we’re going to create using Unreal Engine 5!"
