Despite some folks' fervent wishes, the inevitable has finally happened: Michael Vick is set to return to the NFL. The former Falcons quarterback, who has been out of the league since 2006 after being convicted for running a dogfighting operation, today signed a two-year contract with the Phildelphia Eagles. In July, Vick was re-instated by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and he will be allowed to take part in preseason practices and play in the final two pre-season games against the Jacksonville Jaguars and the New York Jets.
Of course, Vick's return to the league means a return to the Madden NFL franchise, namely Madden NFL 10. Earlier, I took a few screens of how Vick will look in Eagles green and white in Madden 10. Incidentally, I have Vick wearing the number 8 because the game wouldn't let me assign him the number 7 (which I'm sure Ron Jaworski appreciates). I created my Vick with the stats he had in Madden NFL 07 but it will be interesting to see how the Madden 10 development team rates Vick once he's added to the game in a future roster update.
So, what do you think of Mike Vick playing in Philly? Do you think he'll be an able back-up for Donovan McNabb? How would you rate Vick in Madden 10, considering his time away from the league?
[UPDATE: According to an ESPN report, Michael Vick's addition to the Madden NFL 10 roster will take place with the August 19 roster update. He will be rated 73 overall, with notable ratings of 90 speed, 94 agility, 92 acceleration, 93 throw power, and 69 throw accuracy.]
