Mad Catz announced on Tuesday that it has partnered with Sega to deliver new peripherals for the Dreamcast console. Under the agreement signed with Sega, the company will license technology and other intellectual property to Mad Catz. This is the first time Sega has agreed to licence technology to a third-party manufacturer, and Interact hopes to follow suit, as it recently signed a letter of intent to Sega for a similar agreement.
"This agreement is very significant for Mad Catz," said Whitney Peterson, vice president of corporate development for Mad Catz. "Not only does it allow Mad Catz to make sure our peripherals are 100 percent compatible with all Dreamcast games, but it also serves to greatly strengthen the relationship between Mad Catz and Sega. Initially, ten Mad Catz peripherals will be licensed, including Mad Catz's highly successful steering wheels, the critically acclaimed six-button control pad, the Blaster, Force Pack, a PC keyboard converter, and a memory unit.Additional licensed products will come on line next year."
