Two weeks after it was revealed that Impressions was working on an add-on expansion that would radically change Lords of Magic, Sierra Studios announced Monday that it will instead package everything together in a new Lords of Magic Special Edition to be released on September 15.
The new Special Edition will sell for about US$40, with a $20 mail-in rebate for previous owners of Lords of Magic. Enhancements to the game include the new Legends of Urak Quest Pack, a new map editor, new legendary magical creatures, multilevel caves and dungeons, many new artifacts and spells, and improved artificial intelligence.
"We have a very loyal following for Lords of Magic," said Jim Veevaert, director of marketing for Sierra Studios. "We wanted to offer Lords of Magic owners more than just an expansion pack, and make it easily accessible."
"Lords of Magic Special Edition is the game we always wanted to make," says Chris Beatrice, general manager of Impressions. "The game ties together all of the rich diverse elements that make up classic high fantasy and weaves from them a wonderful, different story every time you play."
Unfortunately it doesn't appear that the extra enhancements will be available in a downloadable patch or sold in a separate, independent package.
