Lord Of The Rings TV Show Will Have "Familiar" Characters-September 2024
Sep 22, 2024 10:26 PM

The official synopsis for Amazon's billion-dollar Lord of the Rings TV show has been published, and it includes some intriguing teases for where the fantasy program may be headed.

TheOneRing.net has obtained the official synopsis. While some of the information is old--like how the show is set during the Second Age of Middle-earth--the synopsis does contain some noteworthy lines. For example, the description teases that the show will take viewers to places like the Misty Mountains and the elf-capital of Lindon, as well as the island of Numenor.

We also learn that the TV show will include an ensemble cast of characters "both familiar and new." It has long been speculated that the Amazon show might feature the royal elf Galadriel. The show takes places "thousands" of years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, so you shouldn't expect any familiar Hobbits to show up, however.

Here is the official Lord of the Rings TV show description:

"Amazon Studios' forthcoming series brings to screens for the very first time the heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth’s history. This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness. Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone."

The cast for the Lord of the Rings TV show added 20 further actors back in December, and this was on top of the initial announcement of more than a dozen actors. Filming is taking place in New Zealand, and director J.A. Bayona (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) recently finished filming the episodes he was responsible for.

Outside of TV, there are multiple new Lord of the Rings video games in the works, including a game centered around Gollum.
