Little Nightmares III was announced on stage at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2023, with developer Supermassive Games confirming that cooperative play would be introduced to the series for the first time.
The sequel still features two protagonists, much like Little Nightmares II, but this time you'll be able to experience the spooky story either alone or with a friend. Although cooperative play was confirmed, only online play was mentioned by developers on stage, with no indication yet if local co-op would also be supported.
The reveal trailer also showcases a distinctly different visual theme when compared to the previous two entries. Little Nightmares III features environments more akin to a junkyard, with strong yellow hues suggesting that it takes place very far away from its previous setting. This could also be indicative of some changes that developer Supermassive Games is making, with original developer Tarsiers not mentioned during the reveal.
In addition to the announcement, a companion podcast series called The Sounds of Nightmares was announced. This six-part series is a new story set within the world of Little Nightmares, with the first two episodes available to stream today.
Little Nightmares III is due for launch in 2024. It's coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
