Latest Rise of The Tomb Raider 360 vs XB1 Comparison Shows Nixxes’ Magnum Opus-November 2024

The latest adventure of Lara Croft, one of the most popular characters in gaming, is about to become available for Xbox gamers.

Some copies of the game are already in the wild, which led to a few screenshots of Rise of the Tomb Raider 360 roaming the web via walkthrough videos published on YouTube. The Xbox 360 version of the game has been kept under wraps for the entirety of the development phase, leading to some concerns regarding its quality; however, this screenshot comparison with the Xbox One version of the game shows that the old console is old but not obsolete, as Arnold Schwarznegger would put it.

Granted, the Xbox One version looks clearly better in some areas such as the lighting and Lara's hair. However, it's impossible not to commend the developer of Rise of the Tomb Raider 360 for their work, as the game looks really great for running on hardware released back in 2005; even more so after hearing of other AAA games released on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 with cut features and terrible graphics. One thing is for sure, Xbox gamers who still haven't upgraded to the next generation may purchase Rise of the Tomb Raider 360 knowing that it's a great port; even the performance seems to fairly stable, going by the walkthrough videos published on RazorUnit's YouTube channel (beware of spoilers).

This may not be surprising for those familiar with the work of Nixxes, a Dutch studio specialized in porting Square Enix games. Nixxes is responsible for the excellent PC ports of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Hitman: Absolution, Tomb Raider (the 2013 reboot) and Thief; the studio will also work on Deus Ex: Mankind Divided's PC edition.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like they are also going to work on the PC port of Rise of the Tomb Raider, scheduled to hit in "early 2016" according to Square Enix. PlayStation 4 gamers, on the other hand, will have to wait for Holiday 2016 to play as Lara Croft once again.
