A new Returnal PC update has been deployed, which adds support for AMD FSR 2.1 alongside some fixes, and a new PSO cache option.
The new patch is a minor one and should download automatically through the Steam client. Of course, those owning the game can also update it manually. As said, this update upgrades the game's AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution to FSR 2.1. In addition, the update allows players to manually rebuild the Pipeline State Object (PSO) cache through the graphics settings. There are also a few fixes for the Crimson Wastes biome and a fix for some annoying interruptions during boss fights. We're pretty sure that the latter will please at least some of the PC players.
You can find the official release notes on the game's Steam page here.
Originally released as a PlayStation 5 exclusive in 2021, Returnal received a PC port earlier this year. Unfortunately, the PC version suffered from stuttering issues. Post-launch patches aimed to resolve these issues.
Here's what we wrote about Housemarque's roguelike in our PS5 launch review two years ago.
"Returnal is nothing short of a feast for all of your senses if you count the aroma and taste of sweaty palms (I wouldn't actually advise licking your DualSense controller as you play)", Kai Powell wrote in his review. "The 3D audio that Housemarque has implemented in Returnal is in full effect once you start playing with headphones on. There's a sense of spatial awareness that gives the player superpowers to evade enemy bullet fire even from enemies located well off-screen. Even when fully immersed in the challenges I could see, being able to hear and discern what enemies were located just outside of my field of view was almost an unfair advantage. But when everything on Atropos is out for your head, any help you can get might save a life."
