The fantasy world of Krondor will come full circle soon as Raymond E. Feist, the author who created Krondor in a series of books, adapts the CD-ROM games based on his world into novels. Sierra On-Line's Betrayal at Krondor and 7th Level's Return to Krondor will be adapted for a tentative release in 1998 by Avon Books.
Feist, who collaborated with both developers on the plots for the games, first introduced the world in a series of novels called the Riftwar Saga. The first game, Betrayal at Krondor, is an RPG centered on main characters Pug and Tomas that takes place ten years after the end of A Darkness in Sethanon, the fourth book in the series.
In Return to Krondor, the sequel, evil forces have taken the Tear of the Gods from the Ishapian church and the five main characters must go on an epic quest to retrieve it. This title is due into stores in the first quarter of 1998.
Feist has told fans on his mailing list that not everything in the games will be found in the books, and slight changes will be made because "there are things that make great gameplay and sucky fiction."
