Konami Prevented Kojima From Attending The Game Awards
Konami Prevented Kojima From Attending The Game Awards-November 2024
Nov 14, 2024 3:22 PM

The Konami vs Kojima story continues as it turns out that Konami prevented Kojima from attending the event. According Geoff Keighley, Konami's lawyers didn't allow Kojima to accept any rewards.

Kojima was invited by Game Awards producer Geoff Keighley to attend the event, after all, Kojima has been amazingly important to the videogame industry, and the recently released Metal Gear Solid V in particular.

At the event, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain won an award for best action-adventure game, but Kiefer Sutherland had to accept an award on his behalf. Interestingly, Sutherland accepted the award on behalf of Kojima and not on Konami’s behalf. Keighley pointed out that Kojima was at home, watching the event.

Game Award producer and host Keighley described the situation regarding Kojima as follows:

Mr. Kojima had every intention of being with us tonight, but unfortunately he was informed by a lawyer representing Konami just recently that he would not be allowed to travel to tonight's award ceremony to accept any awards. He’s still under an employment contract and it’s disappointing.

Following the events, Kojima retweeted the following Tweet:

Geoff Keighley stated that Hideo Kojima wasn't allowed by Konami to attend TGA 2015... what a load of D-Horse shit. https://t.co/0ALKHeQxPV

Although Kojima wasn’t allowed to accept the reward for his game, Sony has every intention to credit the Metal Gear creator for receiving an award for best action/adventure game.

IGN’s Ryan McCaffrey also shared his view on the Konami/Kojima matter.

Wow, I love you @geoffkeighley for publicly throwing Konami under the bus for banning @HIDEO_KOJIMA_EN from #TheGameAwards. Grow up Konami.

McCaffrey expresses that Konami should grow up. What are your thoughts on the Konami vs Kojima matter?
