Have you finally managed to grind through all of Kingdom Hearts III’s content? Looking for a new challenge? Well, you’re in luck, because according to series mastermind Tetsuya Nomura, the game’s Critical Mode launches for free tomorrow (April 23).

　　Critical Mode has traditionally been the hardest difficulty available in Kingdom Hearts games. We don’t know the specifics of Kingdom Hearts III’s Critical Mode will include, but according to the game’s co-director Tai Yasue, it will be “more technical and offensive” and has been designed for those who are “good at action games” in mind. So yeah, kind of sounds like Kingdom Hearts by way of Platinum Games. Should be interesting to see how fans respond to this harder take on KHIII.

This has consistently been one of Square Enix’s best action RPG series, and the combat has been elevated to a level that no other developer could match. Sora and the Keyblade Hero 3 are in peak form this time around. The story, on the other hand, is far more convoluted and massive story dumps detract from the final hours of gameplay. If you’ve been following the story so far, these scenes can be rewarding, but if you’re a bit of a novice when it comes to Kingdom Hearts lore, you may find yourself scratching your head and wondering just what happened."
