Some of the first 3DS games ever announced are finally ready for a retail debut. Nintendo of America today confirmed its first quarter release schedule, which is now expected to see the launches of Kid Icarus: Uprising, Resident Evil: Revelations, and Metal Gear Solid 3D: Snake Eater, all three of which were announced during the 3DS's 2010 Electronic Entertainment Expo unveiling.
Kid Icarus is grounded for a few more months. Set for release on March 23, Kid Icarus: Uprising will see the return of Nintendo's 8-bit era angelic action star Pit. As before, Pit is taking on the evil Medusa, although this new iteration will feature him fighting the forces of evil in the skies, as well as on land. Additionally, the game features a multiplayer mode where up to six 3DS owners can take each other on in teams of three.
But before Kid Icarus returns, Capcom is readying Resident Evil: Revelations for a February 7 debut alongside the 3DS Circle Pad Pro peripheral. The game will follow Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine in an episodic story-driven adventure set between the events of Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5. The agents are once again on a mission to discover the truth behind a zombie outbreak, with this one stemming from the T-Abyss virus. As for the Circle Pad Pro, the $20 add-on will serve as a cradle for the 3DS system to give users a second analog circle pad on the right-hand side of the system. The optional accessory will be compatible with a handful of other titles and in North America will be sold exclusively at GameStop.
Among the games supporting the Circle Pad Pro will be Konami's Metal Gear Solid 3D: Snake Eater. That title doesn't have a concrete release date yet, but Nintendo did list it as a first quarter release. Snake Eater 3D includes a number of enhancements that cater to the handheld's hardware, including 3D visuals and touch-screen and camera support.
The Circle Pad Pro will be a GameStop exclusive. While the 3DS offerings will get the bulk of attention on Nintendo's release slate, the company did reveal some more details on its Wii and original DS lineups as well. Wii players can look forward to Rhythm Fever Heaven on February 13, as well as Mario Party 9 on March 11. As for the DS, Atlus is readying Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2 for a February release.
