Rumors of Keanu Reeves appearing in a Fast and Furious movie have been swirling for years, and it looks like the John Wick star was pretty close to landing a part in Fast X. Actor Alan Ritchson, who plays a villain named Aimes in Fast X, said he was not the first choice.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Ritchson said it was "just a little stroke of luck and good timing" that he appeared in Fast X. Ritchson said he was filming Ordinary Angels with Hilary Swank when he got a call telling him that "things had shifted in the plans with Keanu Reeves." Ritchson would eventually sign on to play the role said to have been offered to Reeves.
"Tough act to follow," Ritchson said.
It was reported previously that Reeves was in discussions to appear in the 2019 spin-off Hobbs and Shaw, also in a villain role. That never materialized, though, and neither did his reported chance to appear in Fast X. The Fast and Furious series will continue after Fast X Part 1, 2, and maybe 3 with spin-offs, so there is always a chance that Reeves could show up someday.
Fast X is in theaters now and putting up big numbers at the box office. It earned more than $300 million worldwide out of the gate, making it the third-best start in franchise history.
