Jurassic World: Dominion Director Says Movie Connects To Netflix Animated Series
Jurassic World: Dominion Director Says Movie Connects To Netflix Animated Series-October 2024
Oct 19, 2024 4:23 AM

Jurassic World reignited interest in dinosaur danger in 2015 enough that it turned into a second trilogy. Netflix animated spinoff Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous began as a look at what else was happening during the events of Jurassic World. When Camp Cretaceous Season 2 hits Netflix this week, though, Jurassic World: Dominion director Colin Trevorrow says the animated series will help set the stage for his big finale, Jurassic World: Dominion.

Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous focuses on a group of kids who, like everyone else who visits a dinosaur park, end up stranded among giant carnivorous dinosaurs and have to fend for themselves to survive. Where Season 1 focused on survival, Season 2 sees the kids "take control of their own survival." The first season released in October 2020, and the second arrives this week, on January 22.

Now Playing: Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Review

"It's important to me, out of respect for the writers who are continuing to expand and create, to recognize [Camp Cretaceous] as clearly its own story and its own show," said Colin Trevorrow, who directed both Jurassic World and Jurassic World: Dominion and executive produces Camp Cretaceous, in an interview with EW. "But this season--and if we're granted further opportunities to tell the story that we have [in Season 3]--will keep weaving into the larger story and really inform some things, even in Dominion that will connect to discoveries made that I'm really excited about."

Trevorrow said that Jurassic World: Dominion, which is currently set to hit US theaters on June 10, 2022, will act as "a culmination of one story that's been told." That includes the Jurassic Park trilogy, which he describes as episodic in nature, and the Jurassic World trilogy, which is intentionally serialized. It also acts as a celebration of the series thanks to the presence of both original cast members Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum, alongside Jurassic World actors Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard.

"If kids who are born today are going to be presented with six Jurassic Park movies--you hope parents will buy them the box set--you hope they are going to feel like they watch one long story," Trevorrow said.
