It might have taken the latest part in the Jurassic Park franchise 14 years to arrive, but Jurassic World has wasted no time in becoming one of the biggest films ever made. Jurassic World 2 is already lined-up for a 2018 release, and now it seems that a third part is being worked on.

　　The Hollywood Reporter has printed a roundtable discussion between various Hollywood executives, in which Universal Pictures Chairman Donna Langley was asked about Jurassic World 2 hitting its scheduled release date. "There's no reason why we should [have trouble]," she replied. "Colin Trevorrow [Jurassic World's director] is busy working on an outline. He's been working with Steven [Spielberg]. And they have an idea for the next two movies actually. It was designed as a trilogy, unbeknown to us. It's a happy surprise."

　　Trevorrow is not returning for this first sequel (he's directing Star Wars Episode 9 instead), but is co-writing and executively producing. In September he told the Jurassic Cast Podcast how Jurassic World 2 would differ from its predecessor.

　　"It will get to be a different kind of film," he said. "The audience has given us permission to a certain extent to take this to the next level, and I don't necessarily mean in scale, I feel very strongly that it's not about more dinosaurs or bigger and better dinosaurs, it's about using this as a starting point for a much larger story about our relationship with these animals.

　　"Jurassic World was very much made with the fans in mind, and I'm not going to forget it, but now we've seen a lot of 'dinosaurs chasing people around on an island' movies. I think you guys and also the general audience is going to be down to explore where else we can go."

　　Jurassic World is now the third most successful movie of all time, with a worldwide gross of £1.66 billion, as well only the fourth movie in history to cross the $1 billion mark purely on international ticket sales. Jurassic World 2 is set to hit cinemas on June 22, 2018.
