Jumanji Returning to TV This Month in Honor of Robin Williams' 65th Birthday-September 2024
Sep 21, 2024 1:42 PM

The 1995 Robin Williams fantasy movie Jumanji will be broadcast on TV later this month to honor the late actor. Sundance TV announced today that it will show the film on Monday, July 21, which would have been the actor's 65th birthday. Williams died in August 2014.

Jumanji will air on Sundance TV at 9 PM ET on July 21, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Jumanji the movie is an adaption of the 1981 Chris Van Allsburg picture book. Williams' character, Alan Parrish, became stuck in a board game as a young boy before being set free (along with other creatures and characters) in the modern day.

A reboot of Jumanji is in the works at Sony and will be directed by Jake Kasdan, the son of legendary Star Wars writer Lawrence Kasdan. The original Jumanji had three main characters--played by Williams, Kirsten Dunst, and Bradley Pierce--but the 2017 reboot will have five major roles.

Actors confirmed for the Jumanji reboot so far include Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Kevin Hart, and Jack Black. For his part, Johnson pledged not to "screw up" the reboot. He also talked about how the new film aims to honor Williams.

"The love and respect I have for this man is boundless. You have my word: we will honor his name and the character of 'Alan Parrish' will stand alone and be forever immortalized in the world of Jumanji in an earnest and cool way."
