Jennifer Hudson delivered one of the only redeeming moments of the 2019 film Cats, belting out the emotional "Memory" song during the film's final moments as audiences tried to stop laughing long enough to listen. According to the singer and actress, however, she was unaware she was going to actually... look like a cat in the movie.
Speaking to Empire, Hudson revealed she didn't know how her character, Grizabella, would look in the finished product. "Well, I didn't know I'd have ears or a tail," Hudson said.

Now Playing: Cats (2019) - Official New Trailer
Rather than use traditional makeup and costume techniques, Cats utilized CG fur and whiskers to make its human actors resemble felines. It did not work very well, resulting in something that was unsettling and bizarre. That's even before having to deal with James Corden or when Judi Dench breaks the fourth wall, a moment that caused some people to yell during a screening--I apologize to everyone else in the theater when I did that.
Cats was panned by critics, and it released on the same day as a Star Wars movie. That didn't bode too well for ticket sales, and it ended up being a massive box office bomb that reportedly cost Universal Pictures more than $100 million.
