Director James Gunn has shared some new insight on the upcoming Peacemaker TV show starring John Cena. A spin-off from The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker has a number of seemingly disparate influences, according to Gunn.

　　Gunn started off with a joke, mentioning that his biggest inspiration is Cena taking his Peacemaker costume home to nap in it, which actually happened. More seriously, Gunn said some of his other major inspirations for Peacemaker included the hit AMC TV show Better Call Saul, the video game series Dance Dance Revolution, tighty-whitie underwear, the band Def Leppard, the 1970s Captain America TV movie, and a "rotten childhood."

　　Given Gunn's trademark proclivity to be silly on social media, it's not exactly clear which of these inspirations are real and which are only for laughs.

　　Peacemaker is Gunn's first stab at television, but it won't be his last. He's also working on a Guardians of the Galaxy holiday special for TV.

　　In addition to Cena, Peacemaker will feature Alison Araya (Julie and the Phantoms) and Lenny Jacobson (Halt and Catch Fire) in recurring roles. Other cast members include Chukwudi Iwuji (When They See Us) and Lochlyn Munro (Riverdale).

　　The Suicide Squad is scheduled to hit theaters on August 6, 2021, and Cena's Peacemaker spinoff is coming in January 2022.
