At Comic-Con, both Marvel and director James Gunn have revealed new information regarding Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3's plot. A new trailer was also screened for attendees, though it isn't online yet.
GameSpot got a chance to talk briefly with Gunn about the upcoming third sequel. "It's an incredibly emotional story," Gunn said. "Much more mature than the other Guardian stories in a way because, you know, we started making these movies that were 10, 11 years old when they saw the first one, and now they're 20, 21 years old. The movie has grown up with them."
A new synopsis also released by Marvel is as follows: "Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him to defend the universe along with protecting one of their own. A mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them."
Other Guardians 3 revelations from Comic-Con include Borat 2's Maria Bakalova being cast as Cosmo the Space Dog, and that the film will also introduce Peacemaker's Chukwudi Iwuji as the High Evolutionary--an announcement that also included Iwuji taking Hall H by storm, showing up in costume and fully in-character to deliver a scathing monologue about how he can't wait to evolve us disgusting humans into something truly beautiful.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 hits theaters May 5, 2023.
Earlier this year, Gunn announced that Guardians 3 will wrap the trilogy and be his last film with the franchise and cast.
