TOKYO - GameSpot News sat down with Jaleco, the developer of the dance rhythm game Stepping Selection for the Sony PlayStaion2. We interviewed company representative Mr. Kazuya Takayanagi regarding the game:
GS: Your company's first PS2 title, Stepping Selection, is looking great at the booth. What percentage complete is it?
Jaleco: The game is actually 100 percent complete. We are ready to release it at launch on March 4.
GS: How many people were on the development team?
Jaleco: We've had about 20 to 30 people in our development team.
GS: How long did the development of the game take?
Jaleco: It took our development team about four months overall.
GS: Wow, that seems short. Did the team encounter difficulties during development?
Jaleco: Actually, yes. The team really worked very hard to complete the game in time for the PS2 launch date.
GS: We can imagine. Was there a reason for the company to choose Stepping Selection as the first PS2 title?
Jaleco: Our company looked at the PS2 audience and decided to develop the game so a wide audience can play the game.
GS: What's the sales point for the game?
Jaleco: I think being able to play hit songs from the current market is a big plus for the game. We've acquired licenses for some of the songs through the record companies Avex and BMG.
GS: Do you have any plans to release the game in the US?
Jaleco: We are currently focusing our release of the game in Japan. We chose the track songs specifically for the Japanese audience, but if there is enough interest, we will consider an overseas release.
GS: What are your other plans for the PS2?
Jaleco: At this point, we have ones that are in the planning stages. We'll be able to announce officially when everything has been finalized. We will be developing for other platforms, and among them, the PS2 will be vital in our future developments.
GS: We will be looking for it. Thank you very much for your time.
