Sunset Overdrive was one of the high-profile Xbox One exclusives when it launched in October 2014. The game, an open world third person shooter set in a dystopian post-apocalyptic (albeit light-hearted) world, had a fairly positive reception with reviews averaging a score of 81/100 according to Metacritic.
However, sales never really took off despite all the discounts. According to VGChartz, the game barely passed 1.16 million units.
On Microsoft's Store, it can now be purchased for $29.99 though it's actually free if you are a subscriber of the recently launched Xbox Game Pass program.
Still, the game garnered a certain following who'd very much enjoy a sequel. Answering a question on Twitter, Insomniac Games confirmed yesterday that they'd love to create Sunset Overdrive 2, but they'd need to find a publisher first.
we'd love to, we just need to find a publisher!

This clearly means that Microsoft isn't interested in a sequel, at least for the time being. On the other hand, the IP belongs to Insomniac so if any other publisher was interested, they could go forward with it - even on different platforms.
In case you still haven't played Sunset Overdrive and were planning to do it once Microsoft's Xbox One X lands on November 7th, it looks like there won't be any dedicated enhancements provided by Insomniac Games, at least for the time being.
nope, no plans on that front right now. Just playing the game cause Brandon was available and we wanted to have him over
