Insider: Death Stranding Uses Sony Internal Engine, PSX 2016 Will Be Better Than Last Two Shows-October 2024
Oct 20, 2024 3:57 PM

In the next few days, there'll be quite a few game announcements and/or reveals between PlayStation Experience Showcase 2016 (PSX 2016 from now on) and The Game Awards 2016, respectively scheduled for December 3rd (10AM Pacific Time) and December 1st (5.30PM Pacific Time).

Legendary game designer Hideo Kojima will appear at both events. He's set to receive his Industry Icon award at The Game Awards 2016 (one year later) and yesterday he confirmed that he will be at PSX 2016 for a developer panel on Death Stranding. There will also be a subsequent autograph session.

I'll do panel & autograph at #PSX16! Saturday Dec 3rd.

  Panel starts at 1pm

  Autograph starts at 2pm

It should be the right venue to learn plenty of details regarding Death Stranding, his new open world action game starring Norman Reedus. In fact, according to renown insider shinobi Kojima will reveal the engine used to develop the game and it will be an engine used by internal Sony studios, though it won't be the engine made by Sucker Punch and used in Infamous: Second Son as well as Infamous: First Light. It makes sense that Kojima would make such a choice since the game received significant funding from Sony.

Shinobi had previously hinted on Neogaf that a new Wipeout game is indeed coming, so that could be one of the reveals Sony has in store for PSX 2016. When asked for more leaks, he replied that he shared more than enough already but then added that PSX 2016 will be much better for game reveals than the last two PlayStation Experience events.

There are huge expectations for what Sony Interactive Entertainment is going to show. After all, the company's last conference happened at E3 2016 since they decided to skip both Gamescom and Paris Games Week this year.

Some of the potential reveals include the next game by Sucker Punch (it's been well over two years since Infamous, after all) as well as new gameplay from Insomniac's Spider-Man, Ace Combat 7 (announced at PSX 2015) and Final Fantasy VII Remake. Shinobi also hinted that a reveal for The Last of Us 2 could happen before E3 2017 and if that was the case, PSX 16 would be the ideal venue; even so, though, it's hard to imagine The Last of Us 2 actually releasing before late 2018 considering that Naughty Dog released Uncharted 4: A Thief's End just a few months ago.
