The latest project from Sony first-party studio Sucker Punch has been revealed, and, surprisingly, it’s not a new entry in the InFamous or Sly Cooper series. Sucker Punch will instead by tackling an entirely new genre with Ghost of Tsushima, a beautifully-rendered samurai game. You can check out the first trailer below.
Much like InFamous, Ghost of Tsushima will be an open-world adventure, but this time Sucker Punch is drawing from real-world historical events. Sucker Punch creative director Jason Connell provided further Ghost of Tsushima details in a developer video:
"Ghost of Tsushima is an action, stealth adventure game where you play as a samurai in feudal Japan. We're taking inspiration from the actual historical point in time where the Mongol Army invaded the island of Tsushima.
Player choice will mean something very different than games we've made in the past. We really want you to have that choice of, 'Hey, that cool bamboo forest over there, I really want to check it out.' There's no waypoint. There's nothing that says, 'Go here and look at this forest,' we're just, hopefully, presenting something that's beautiful and exotic, and that's your adventure choice. Where do I want to go?
We've been working on this game for three-and-a-half years, and it's exciting to be at a spot where we're finally able to share with the world what we've been working on."
