Indy Races To Nintendo 64-October 2024
Oct 28, 2024 2:31 AM

Developer Paradigm's F1 World Grand Prix for the N64 was critically acclaimed as a realistic and deep racing game. Thus we were somewhat surprised when the sequel, despite having been finished and released in Europe, disappeared from US release lists after the company had endlessly delayed its launch. Now, months later, the game has finally shown up again with some major changes.

GT Interactive picked up the title as its publisher and made Paradigm go back and makes some changes, such as taking out the title Formula 1 and replacing it with the more US-centric Indy Racing League. Developers left the basic game engine intact, although the company replaced the detailed car modification options with a more simplistic set of alteration choices. Additionally, the nature of IRL means the overall play is somewhat simpler than Formula 1, although developers did include a draft meter, which lets racers use the slipstream to slingshot past opponents. The game will include 20 real-life drivers and nine tracks, as well as a fictional sprint class and an arcade-style Gold Cup.

Indy Racing 2000 is currently scheduled for release in May to coincide with the Indy 500, and it will support the Expansion Pak.
