It was reported in March that Steven Spielberg will direct a fifth Indiana Jones movie, starring Harrison Ford as the intrepid archaeologist once more. Now Spielberg has spoken about returning to the blockbuster adventure series.
In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Spielberg stated that he was "super excited" for Indy 5. "I think this one is straight down the pike for the fans," he said, seeming to acknowledge that the last film, 2008's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, wasn't exactly well received by many fans.
While Spielberg revealed no further plot details, he did confirm the fate of the main character. "The one thing I will tell you is I'm not killing off Harrison at the end of it," he said.
The fifth Indy movie will hit theaters on July 19, 2019. David Koepp, who worked with Spielberg on both Crystal Skull and Jurassic Park, is set to write it. However, it remains unknown if series co-creator George Lucas will be involved. It has also been confirmed that John Williams will return to score the movie.
Earlier this year, Ford appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and explained why he had decided to make another Indy movie. "[It was] the opportunity to work with Steven again on this character which has brought pleasure to so many," he said.
"It's fun, it's great fun to play this character. It's great fun to work with Steven, I'm looking forward to it".
