Oct 27, 2024 2:32 PM

The game industry may one day add Bombay, Delhi, or Bangalore to its expanding list of cities that host must-attend trade shows and conferences. Today, the Indian gaming community has coalesced around the newly formed Indian Games Industry and Trade Association, or iGITA. The 10-company association, announced today, was formed to advance the cause of India's game companies--in both a local and international context.

Founding member Rajesh Rao, CEO of Bangalore-based Dhruva Interactive, says the iGITA will play a critical role in promoting the fast-growing game industry in India. "It will give Indian gaming companies a much needed boost and enable us to take advantage of the opportunities that lie at home and abroad," he said in a statement.

Speakng with GameSpot, Rao hinted at the association backing an E3-like event in the future. "We've finally taken the first step of forming the Indian game industry association. It's got all the leading companies, so we are now getting closer than ever to India having its own trade show!" Rao said. iGITA members include Microsoft India (Entertainment & Devices Division), Mobile2Win, Paradox Studios, Small Device, Tinfo Mobile, Dhruva Interactive, Electronic Arts, Hungama, Indiagames, and Mauj.
