Immortals of Aveum, the recent first-person magic shooter, is likely coming to Xbox Game Pass and PS Plus at some point.
That's what the CEO of development studio Ascendant Studios, Bret Robbins, said in a new interview with Windows Central. In this interview, Robbins talked about the disappointing launch of the game back in August of this year, which caused the studio to lay off about 45% of its team. "Today, we are heartbroken as we part ways with friends and colleagues at Ascendant Studios - about 45% of our team", the CEO wrote in a message posted on Twitter (now X). "This was a painfully difficult but necessary decision that was not made lightly; nevertheless, we have to make this adjustment now that Immortals of Aveum has shipped".
In the interview with Windows Central, Robbins was asked whether a release on subscription services would have helped the game's launch. Although the CEO didn't directly say that launching Immortals of Aveum on the services would have benefited the game's launch, he did say that he's currently in talks with both Sony and Microsoft to get the game on PS Plus and Game Pass.
"Yes, we are talking to them about getting the game onto both of those services", the CEO said. "We don't have a date yet, I'm pretty sure it's gonna happen, though."
When asked whether launching on Game Pass or PS Plus would've helped Aveum's initial release, he added, "To be honest, I don't know," "I don't know if that would've been better for us or worse," noting that the team relied on EA to handle a lot of those calls.
In addition to launching on PS Plus and/or Game Pass at some point, Robbins also shared that a major price cut for the game is inbound to boost sales. He said as much in a new interview with VGC about the game's troubled launch. "
“I’m happy that people that have engaged with the game really like it and enjoy it, and we’re really hoping that with our new push coming out later this week, that a lot of people who didn’t have the time for it because there were so many other things to play, they find it", Robbins said.
“We’re also going to have a big reduction, a half-off sale, and things like that so that hopefully will help people too.
Immortals of Aveum is available now globally for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Be sure to read our review of this beautiful shooter here if you haven't done so yet.
