ImaginOn has joined the PlayStation 2 system tools and middleware program by offering its ImaginAuthor tool to PS2 developers. The tool lets developers incorporate viewer-directed video that can be used to branch into gameplay sequences. It can also be incorporated exclusively into interactive video entertainment software.
Along with providing its ImaginAuthor technology to PS2 developers, the company is creating its own interactive content for Sony's new console. Its products will combine player-directed video with online content. These products will be available on DVD and will also incorporate broadband Internet functionality.
"Our goal is to deliver at least five ImaginOn titles in 2001," said David Shwartz, CEO at ImaginOn. "These titles will both stand alone on their own merits and serve as a showcase for the unique capabilities of our core technology. These products will also take advantage of ImOn.comTV interactive TV stations on the Web to create open-ended infotainment and entertainment experiences."
The ImaginAuthor middleware tools for the PS2 will be showcased to developers attending the Tool and Middleware Expo 2000. The event, hosted by Sony Computer Entertainment, will be held in Tokyo, Japan from June 21 to 23.
