Interplay has informed GameSpot that production on Icewind Dale, its latest Advanced Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game using the Baldur's Gate engine, finished production over the weekend and is now being readied for retail release.
Like Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale is set in the Forgotten Realms universe. The game lets you create a party of six adventurers using the standard second-edition AD&D rules. You'll guide your party through the treacherous passages and underground lairs of the Icewind Dale region that gained renown in the popular trilogy of Forgotten Realms novels. The game was created internally at Interplay's role-playing game division, Black Isle Studios, and the development team includes staff that worked on Interplay's critically acclaimed RPGs Fallout and Planescape: Torment. GameSpot will publish its full review of Icewind Dale in early July.
