Hydra Takes On GameSpy
Hydra Takes On GameSpy-September 2024
Sep 20, 2024 12:39 PM

Taking on the big guys isn't easy. Just ask Mesa, Arizona developer Red Mountain. Right now, its new game server utility, Hydra-SB, is looking to take on GameSpy 3D.

While the plan may seem a little ambitious, Red Mountain appears to have its heart and mind in the right place. The program sports a completely graphical user interface and is highly editable. And like the popular program WinAmp, Hydra supports skins so you'll be able to alter the overall look and feel of the program to your own preferences.

Other features include a built-in model selector and skin selector for Quake II, and a Fun Names editor for QuakeWorld.

Hydra is already adding support for all the best of multiplayer action titles with Quake, Quake II, QuakeWorld, Sin, Hexen II, Half-Life, and Unreal. Red Mountain is looking to support both Shogo and Blood 2 as well.

Right now, the program is in open beta - gamers can download it and give it a whirl. Once the final version releases, gamers can choose to unlock all the features of the software for US$19.99. Even though the makers of the program haven't reached out to the community until now, it welcomes gamers to download the beta version and take a look.
