Smilebit, formerly Sega's AM6 R&D team, released a network simulation game called Hundred Sword in Japanese arcades today. The company also announced that it will release the game on the Sega Dreamcast. The arcade version consists solely of a single multiplayer network mode, but the DC version will feature its own adventure mode. In this console-only mode, players can select characters and play in an adventure consisting of seven episodes and 30 different maps.
The game is similar to PC games such as Command & Conquer and Starcraft in that players raise battalion troops while they collect resources from nearby locations. Of course, the DC version will also include the multiplayer network game, where four players can fight against one another or fight two-on-two. Over 400 troops will be displayed onscreen simultaneously, all expressed in real-time.
Smilebit has not announced a release date for the Dreamcast version of Hundred Sword. The arcade version is currently available nationwide in Japan.
