Looking for an alternative to the Civilization games? Then ought to be excited for Humankind, the new 4X Civ-like from Amplitude Studios (Endless Space). The game was unveiled at the Gamescom Opening Night Live show, and the game’s trailer makes it look a lot like Civilization VI, but there is a twist – Humankind won’t force you to stick to a single culture. Instead, you start in caveman times, then evolve into multiple different civilizations. So, you may start as, say, the Egyptians, but then evolve into the Greeks, Romans, or Chinese. Not exactly the most historically accurate approach, but it could be interesting. Check out the debut trailer for Humankind, below.

By the same token, given how similar the game looks to Civ, it’s really going to have to justify its existence to me.
