Humanity from the Makers of Rez will be Day 1 PS Plus Release When it Launches in May-October 2024

Do you miss some of the quirkier Japanese-developed games that used to be a key hallmark of PlayStation platforms? Weird easy-to-jump-into games like Parappa the Rapper, Intelligent Qube, and Katamari Damacy? Well, then Humanity might be for you. The latest from Rez, Child of Eden, and Tetris Effect creator Tetsuya Mizuguchi, Humanity is a strange little game in which you control a glowing shiba inu that guides large groups of people through various extremely varied challenges. Honestly, words don’t quite do the concept justice, so you really should check out the latest trailer for Humanity, below.

In addition to locking down a spring release date, it’s also been confirmed that Humanity will be a Day 1 PlayStation Plus release. Unlike some past games, Humanity won’t be one of the PS Plus Essential games, it will be a “catalog” title and you’ll need to subscribe to PS Plus Extra or Premium to access it. Need to know more about the game? Here’s a little more detail via the PlayStation Blog…

“In Humanity, you control that glowing shiba inu, placing commands on the ground for a giant marching horde of people to follow. Make them turn, jump, float through the air, swim, climb, etc., all to reach the goal (or goals) in each stage. The game gradually introduces these mechanics and more, combining them with each other and new elements to ramp up the challenge the further you go.

Humanity’s Story Mode stages run the gamut along the action-puzzle spectrum, from lean-forward platformer-style “action” levels that will test your reflexes, to lean-back “puzzle” head-scratchers where you might even put the controller down while you think something through – and everything in-between. The game is constantly introducing new mechanics, and mixing and matching them with everything you’ve learned so far to make it feel like you’re always challenged, and never know what’s coming next.”

Humanity launches on PC, PS4, and PS5 on May 12. The game will also be playable in VR via all major PC VR platforms, PSVR, and PS VR2. What do you think? Interested in trying something a little different?
