Hudson's Network RPG Update
Hudson's Network RPG Update-October 2024
Oct 20, 2024 6:46 PM

Hudson of Japan has revealed details on Rune Jade, the network RPG for the Sega Dreamcast. The game will be similar in terms of both appearance and gameplay to the PC title Diablo, where players battle against monsters in dungeons comprised of randomly generated maps. The character design will be done by Yutaka Minowa, who is popular for his work in the animes Ninja Scroll and Records of Lodoss War. Players can select from professions like knight, ninja, monk, and magician. Up to eight individual characters can be created per account. Hudson will have an account set up for players to play in the network game. Players can save the eight individual characters onto the Dreamcast VMU as well. The game also has an option of a "friendly mode", where players will not receive damage from their party members. Depending on their performance, players will be given nicknames like "The Flaming Magician," "The Coward," and even "The Backstabber."

The game can be played as a single off-line game or a multiplayer network game via the modem. There will be more than 100 different dungeon maps, though only a fifth of them will be available in single-player mode. Also, depending on their profession, players may not encounter certain dungeon maps. But with a multiplayer network game, you can roam around all types of dungeons if your party consists of different professions.

The game is 80 percent complete, and Hudson is planning compatibility with the DC keyboard for chat options as well. Rune Jade for the Sega Dreamcast is scheduled for a summer release in Japan.
