HBO has renewed the Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon for a second season. The renewal order comes after just one episode of the first season, which aired on August 21 and was a big success.

　　The series premiere set a viewership record for HBO with 10 million same-day viewers. HBO now reports that the first episode reached more than 20 million viewers across linear, on-demand, and HBO Max.

　　"We are beyond proud of what the entire House of the Dragon team has accomplished with season one," HBO programming boss Francesca Orsi said. "Our phenomenal cast and crew undertook a massive challenge and exceeded all expectations, delivering a show that has already established itself as must-see-TV."

　　HBO did not announce any further details on House of the Dragon Season 2, so there is no word yet on when it may begin filming, what new cast may join, or when it could be released.

　　House of the Dragon is set 176 before the events of Game of Thrones. It focuses on the Targaryen family and a challenge for the throne, featuring a lot of blood, gore, and political drama.
