House Of The Dragon Caused HBO Max To Crash During Season Premiere-September 2024
Sep 23, 2024 3:32 AM

HBO's Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, premiered on Sunday night, but not everyone had a smooth experiencing watching the season premiere.

Technical issues, reportedly stemming from high demand, led to crashes and other issues with HBO Max. The website Downdetector tracked a spike in outages impacting about 3,000 accounts around the time the show premiered at 6 PM PT / 9 PM ET on Sunday, August 21.

A spokesperson for HBO told The Hollywood Reporter that the issues involved people trying to connect to HBO Max via Amazon's Fire TV devices.

"House of the Dragon is being successfully viewed by millions of HBO Max subscribers [on August 21]," a spokesperson said. "We're aware of a small portion of users attempting to connect via Fire TV devices that are having issues and are in the process of resolving for those impacted users."

Game of Thrones, too, had some crashing issues during its run due in part to the show's immense popularity with millions logging on at once to watch.

House of the Dragon Season 1 episodes air Sunday evenings on HBO. The show will soon overlap with another fantasy drama, Amazon's Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which premieres September 2.
