House of the Dead: Overkill moving to PS3
House of the Dead: Overkill moving to PS3-November 2024
Nov 16, 2024 7:19 PM

It's been two years since Sega last opened the doors to the House of the Dead, but the venerable lightgun franchise has not yet been foreclosed upon. Sega today announced that it is breathing new life into 2009's House of the Dead: Overkill for the Wii with a PlayStation 3 Extended Cut of the game later this year.

The only cure is lead poisoning. Set for release October 25 in North America and October 28 in Europe, House of the Dead: Overkill - Extended Cut will support both the Move controller and stereoscopic 3D displays. On top of that, the game will add new game modes and two new scenarios to the original seven-level zombie shooter.

As with previous House of the Dead games, Overkill is an on-rails light-gun-style shooter that challenges players to mow down hordes of zombies while avoiding innocent civilians with an ill-advised penchant for startling heavily armed secret agents. Unlike previous entries in the series, Overkill adopts a grindhouse B-movie aesthetic in homage to the exploitive cinema of the 1970s. Whereas previous House of the Dead games echoed the acting quality of such films, Overkill also incorporates gratuitous swearing, go-go dancers, and visual effects to simulate battered and beat-up film prints.

Development on Overkill was handled by Headstrong Games, formerly known as Kuju London. Previous projects from Headstrong include the Battalion Wars for the GameCube and Wii, as well as Nintendo's Art Academy series of DS games.
