Interplay's role-playing division Black Isle Studios has hired Hollywood sound designers to work on three of its upcoming titles: David Farmer (who has worked on Armageddon, Con Air, and Mortal Kombat, among other films) and Paul Menicini (who has worked on Babylon 5 and Mortal Kombat among other endeavors) will be lending their talents to Fallout 2. Farmer will be working on Black Isle's Planescape: Torment, set for a 1999 release, and Farmer's EFX Systems and a company called DSP will do sound for the company's upcoming Baldur's Gate title. DSP does sound design for the Xena: Warrior Princess and Hercules television shows.
"Our biggest challenge was to make large sounds for smaller speakers," Farmer said. "We're used to using huge theater-quality speakers, and we had to find a way to use different frequencies to make sounds to imply size without just turning up the volume."
These Hollywood recruits will be working with Black Isle's existing in-house sound team.
